I like to think of the functional pieces I throw on the wheel as my blank canvas for surface decorations. I love a strong outline, saturated color, and smooth surface. I carve through colorful slip painted on the outside of my pot, revealing my lines, or inlay slip into carved areas of the piece and shave it smooth again. I'm interested in careful details while aiming for the whole piece to remain somewhat dynamic and to let things happen naturally.
