Roy Brown Workshop
From Feb. 27th-March 2nd GACA, St. Edwards Univ. Ceramics
Dept. and Sunset Canyon Pottery co-hosted our first Guest Artist Workshop.
Cowboy Potter, Roy Brown from New Mexico, amazed the audience with his
chattered textures on thrown vessels. He amused us with his personal story of a
30 year journey with pottery and informed us with his take on tool making. Roy
is not only a master potter, he is also an accomplished metalsmith. The
addition of hand crafted platter stands, steel handles and talismans in the
form of feathers, oak leaves and other natural elements add a unique dimension
to his beautifully decorated pottery. Roy also met with the St. Edwards
Ceramics classes. While demonstrating his skills, he gave the students a hands
on experience with the potters' wheel. The cowboy/teacher knew just how to
lasso their undivided attention. On Friday night Roy, the philanthropist, gave
a lecture and donated a portion of his sales to raise funds for the Dripping
Springs Public Library. Roy is truly one-of-a-kind and we were delighted to
have him as our first visiting artist.
